Abstract


THE CAUCASUS FRONT WAR HISTORY MUSEUM EXAMINATION OF MILITARY CLOTHING AND COMPLEMENTARY ELEMENTS

Clothing is a phenomenon that includes many strong meanings as well as reflecting aesthetic features. This phenomenon varies according to the culture and geography of the person. From the past to the present, clothing has been one of the elements that reflect the identity of the person and has taken on the role of a tool in determining the place and responsibility of the person in the society. Military clothing, in addition to meaning and aesthetics, has been a social sign and its functional features have been very important during the periods of great wars. Since ancient times, clothing has been one of the most important symbols of belonging. Seen in military clothing; color, fabric structure, form, accessories, workmanship and themes (motif, figure, etc.) in the accessories of the state to which the military clothing belongs; It gives information about religion, culture, economy, power, and borders. Provides information about borders. The Caucasian Front War History Museum witnessed many bloody and painful events until the proclamation of the Republic. In each room of the Museum, which consists of many chambers, figures and areas in military clothing reflecting the hardship of the war are exhibited. In the study, the military clothes in the Caucasian Front War History Museum, which was known as the "Bloody Bastion" in the past and which had an important place in the defense of the city of Kars against the attacks of the Russians, and those that complement these clothes; guns, knives, gunpowder etc. elements were examined. During this examination, the inventory records and photographs in the archive of the Caucasian Front War History Museum were examined and the military clothes and the elements that complement these clothes were tried to be interpreted. Clothing and clothing accessories under review; upper body, underwear, lower body, head, foot, and complementary elements (insignia, epaulettes, weapons, belts, buttons, belts, socks, gunpowder, etc.). Since the inventory documents in the museum archive do not provide clear information on the military clothes of the period, military clothes were tried to be explained by making field and literature surveys.
