Competition of global transport network initiatives on the “shade of green”: BRI, B3W, EGD

Abstract

Human civilization has finally realized its obligation to reduce as far as possible all emissions and wastes from its own activities. At the same time, this situation reveals the necessity of emission and waste reduction for all sectors and imposes important responsibilities for the transportation sector, which is an important global emission source. In particular, the fulfillment of these responsibilities by global transportation networks and their effects on the environment are of global importance. The current environmental improvement obligations and the high level expectations of the society in this regard are the most important factors and competition areas that determine the future of the transportation networks in question. For this reason, environmental performances or green shades of global transport networks have become the most important competitive and superior area. In this research, the green shades of the three important global transportation networks, BRI, B3W, EGD initiatives, were tried to be revealed. The aim of the study is to determine the environmental levels of current and future transportation initiatives, to compare them with each other and to reach conclusions for the future. In this direction, existing data were examined, future scenarios were investigated, and trends and predictions were tried to be revealed with the interpolation method. Required data are mainly obtained from official data published by international organizations, especially the United Nations and its affiliates. Therefore, their validity and reliability levels and ethical compliance are high. As a result of the research, these global transportation initiatives were compared with each other in terms of green tones and it was found that the EDG initiative was superior to the others that still need development.
