Abstract

The beginning date of the knitting art is not known exactly, and it is a branch of our handicrafts, which has been going on for centuries and is one of our intangible cultural heritages that preserves its vitality today. Socks and booties, which people use to protect themselves from the cold and as daily clothing, have an important place in Aksaray and its surroundings. Hand-knitted socks and booties are the most important clothing items, especially in local clothes. Socks are examples of hand knitted socks that are knitted to protect people's feet from the cold and enriched with patterns by gaining more value over time. It is one of the common handicrafts in our country. Aksaray- Sultanhanı district is a rich region in terms of hand-knitted samples. The motifs used in the pattern decoration of socks or booties samples, which are hand knitted samples, provide information about the culture of the region where they are knitted. For example, motifs used in the decoration of socks and booties samples obtained in Sultanhanı district are also used extensively in carpet and rug weaving samples in the region. It is aimed to share the information about the material, motif, color, technique and usage purpose used by examining the hand-knitted samples obtained in Aksaray Sultanhanı district. Hand-knitted socks, booties or gloves, which are one of our cultural values, make a significant contribution to the transmission of this tradition from generation to generation, especially in winter months
