Abstract

The parts added to the clothes or attached to the body to make the clothes useful, efficient and attractive are defined as accessories. Accessories are designed to make life easier and show the magnificence of the people who use them. Scarf is a fashion accessory that is worn to cover the neck, shoulders and head, for warmth, visual appeal, religious reasons or to keep the hair clean and tidy. The scarf has many functional uses such as keeping dust and smoke away from the mouth and nose in dry deserts, absorbing sweat in hot weather and keeping warm in cold climates. The history of the scarf is based on very humble roots. It has a history starting with the ancient Egyptians and extending to Croatian, Chinese and French cultures. It has been used as an indicator of class and status from past to present. The Chinese military, in particular, has a long tradition of using scarves as a rank mark. Scarves made of linen, cotton and silk were used to express the status or position given to the individual in the military. Scarves have been important in demonstrating the cadre, position and power given to a particular person.
