CEPKENS, ONE OF THE LOCAL DRESSES OF KONYA AND THEIR DECORATION FEATURES

Abstract

Konya is a city located in the Central Anatolia region, which has an artistic richness that has embodied different cultures. It is located in a rich spectrum that dates back to ancient times both in the fields of architecture and handicrafts. Among the handicrafts, products of clothes are the areas where decorative arts are used. Konya has also its clothing and decorating tradition which shapes specific to itself. In the study, the selected cepkens (long-sleeved vests) kept in the warehouse in Konya A.R. Izzet Koyunoğlu Museum were examined through the descriptive analysis method. In this context, 10 works were included in the study. First of all, the consent required was obtained, photographs were taken, the sizes were measured, and the artifacts were analyzed and documented in detail with observation slips. The model, material, decoration features, etc. of the cepkens (long-sleeved vests) were determined. Fabric types, colors, styles, and sizes were also analyzed. The study aims to reveal the characteristics of Konya cepken (long-sleeved vests) samples and to archive them. In conclusion, the colors, fabrics, and embroidery properties used were determined and revealed. The things that need to be done for the protection and promotion of these products, which are included in traditional handicrafts such as Cepken, are presented as suggestions.
