The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, one of the world's longest-standing disputes, has entered a transformative phase with the rise of social media, reshaping narratives and redefining the dynamics of information dissemination and engagement. This article examines the influence of social media on Palestinian social movements, highlighting its role in shaping global public opinion, countering Israeli narratives, and mobilizing international solidarity for the Palestinian cause especially after the events of October 7.
By breaking the traditional gatekeeping role of mainstream media, social platforms have allowed diverse voices to emerge and grassroots perspectives to reach a global audience. These platforms empower individuals and activists to share their stories and garner support, while also posing challenges such as the spread of misinformation and incitement. Through a critical review of relevant literature, the study delves into the impact of these digital arenas on public opinion and policymaking.
The article also sheds light on the obstacles Palestinians face in utilizing social media and the strategies they employ to overcome them, emphasizing the role of digital literacy and empathy in leveraging these tools for meaningful change in this enduring conflict.
