One of the most important elements of the education-training process is measuring and evaluating. There is a need for valid, reliable, and useful measurement tools to determine whether students have targeted achievements. The goal of this research is to develop a valid and reliable achievement test consisting of multiple-choice questions on the “Elements and Compounds” within the elementary “Particulate Nature of Matter” 7th grade science course. In this frame, a questionnaire and a 40-item question pool was created. After examining the items by the experts, the number of items was reduced to 34 and the validity of the test content validity was provided. The test was applied to 123 middle school students in the 2017-2018 school year. Test item analysis was done. Item difficulty index (p) ranged from 0.28 to 0.91. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of the test was 0.87. Accordingly, it can be said that the developed test is quite reliable. As a result of the reliability and validity study, an achievement test consisting of 27 items was developed about “Elements and Compounds” in the 7th grade science lessons in, “Particulate Nature of Matter” unit.
