Abstract

The purpose of this case report is to describe the therapy process of a 33-year-old female client who showed symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder according to DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, which progressed with the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) school. In this therapy process, the aim was to focus on the client's negative ideas, restructure these ideas and reduce anxiety symptoms. When the client applied for psychological support, psychoeducation was first provided to the client. In the following process, techniques within the scope of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy were applied and the client's negative automatic thoughts, cognitive conflicts and behavioral avoidances were evaluated. In the interviews with the client, cooperation was ensured and a structured therapy process was carried out; in this direction, the client's personal information was protected in accordance with the principle of confidentiality. During the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy period, a decrease in the client's anxiety level, an increase in functionality in daily life, a decrease in negative automatic thoughts and a detectable increase in social interactions were observed. In addition, positive developments were observed in the client's methods of coping with stress. In addition, positive developments were observed in the client's methods of coping with stress. It was observed that CBT was an effective method in both the cognitive and operational levels in individuals diagnosed with GAD. In this case, it supports the fact that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an effective intervention in reducing the symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder and increasing the client's quality of life. It is recommended that future studies be conducted to observe the long-term effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and its applicability to different demographic groups. In addition, the use of supportive methods, such as mindfulness, relaxation exercises, etc., during the therapy process can make the therapy process more effective.
